Marriage records [microform], 1820-1850.

Marriage certificates signify that the marriage occurred. The certificate was completed by the minister or judge and then given to the marrying couple. Marriage licenses were issued by the county clerk upon completion of the bond and give permission for a marriage ceremony to be performed. The license was presented to the person performing the marriage, either the minister, judge, etc.

Estill County was created in 1808 from parts of Clark and Madison Counties, and named for James Estill. Irvine is the county seat. There was a courthouse fire in 1964.
